In 1996, SkyCity opened its flagship Auckland complex and listed on the New Zealand stock exchange.

A year after, Sky Tower opened, becoming the tallest tower in the southern hemisphere. In 2017, Chinese restaurant Huami opened its doors in SkyCity Auckland’s award-winning Federal Street dining precinct, and it reflects the gathering and sourcing of the best ingredients, a connection to the elements of nature, and our passion to deliver guests a vibrant and rewarding premium Chinese dining experience.

Since achieving its China Ready Accreditation in August 2017, SkyCity has been launching forward with initiatives to continually improve the Chinese customer experience at its four sites.

Initiatives include launching social media channels – WeChat, Little Red Book, and Weibo, launching Chinese mini website, introducing WeChat Pay and Alipay, and introducing more authentic shows and performances regarding to Chinese culture.

Meanwhile, SkyCity started to celebrate Chinese New Year since the year it established and has been 26 years so far. Every Chinese New Year, Sky Tower will be lit up in red and gold, joining World-Wide Tower Light-Up Project to celebrate this festival. Other Chinese festivals such as Moon Festival and Dragon Boat Festival are also the key days in its calendar.

SkyCity is focused on ensuring Chinese visitors and customers feel welcome and comfortable and have a great experience of what SkyCity has to offer.
