Our story in China

LUMBERLINK

Lumberlink Ltd was founded 21 years ago by a group of timber personalities that saw a gap in the marketing strategy for New Zealand radiata pine timber. Focussing on small to medium size sawmills who didn’t have the marketing and sales expertise in international markets.

Led by knowledgeable timber sales and marketing staff with in market support, we pride ourselves on our ability to match our customers timber needs with the right supply  from the right suppliers worldwide.

Lumberlink has grown over the years into a company that operates in over 20 countries around the world, with a timber sorting operation in Putaruru ,NZ and shipping logistics out of the port of Tauranga through a dedicated shed and container packing and a shipping documentation team to make exporting as easy as possible.

Following the global financial crisis in 2007-8 Lumberlink established itself in China in the Qingdao region employing staff and putting resources into teaching the fledging radiata pine trade how to grade and use Radiata Pine.

The key driver in China was the late Adrian Gray who spent extensive time in the market with Lumberlink’s chinese staff and customers teaching them how to utilise Radiata pine particularly in key market areas of Baby Furniture and Timber edge glue panels.

With excess volumes of timber in the NZ market Lumberlink helped establish this market when European , US and Australian markets were grappling with low volumes at the height of the GFC.

Lumberlink has continued to sell in China and have staff spread across the eastern sea board of China from Qingdao to Shenzen. It has maintained a presence through the COVID period and reinvented the products it puts into China as supplier sawmill products change and the Chinese market has evolved from a low cost producer for international markets to a user of these products domestically.

We specialise in timber from sustainable managed forests with our main species being Radiata pine but also export other sustainable managed species from Australia and the Americas.

Naturally, we are committed to promoting environmentally ,socially, and economically responsible forest management and hold the internationally recognised Forest Stewardship Council ‘s Chain of Custody Certification . FSC certification allows our customers to label their products accordingly  and in turn gives end users the choice to support responsibly managed forests.

Our aim is to make timber exports as easy as possible for our customers and suppliers.

Congratulations To NZCTA for there work over 50 years in helping build the China and NZ relationships.
